Characterisation of Scedosporium apiospermum genesencoding the membrane transporters that enable fungal cells to assimilate iron

The ScedoFer programme aims to characterise the mechanisms responsible for the uptake of extracellular iron in the filamentous fungus Scedosporium apiospermum. More specifically, it aims to identify the membrane transporters that enable the internalisation of iron into the fungal cell and to assess the consequences of impaired iron uptake in the fungal cell. These membrane transporters appear to represent potential new therapeutic targets, which could ultimately lead to the development of new antifungal compounds.
